Switching from Blogspot to domain name (Vodien web hosting) - Singapore

15:47

If you can see this... it means that my domain is officially up! I'm really excited about the transfer because I've been figuring how to do it as I went along for the past few days without much help from Google search engines. Thank goodness Vodien's customer service is excellent (which I'll elaborate on later). I'll do a step-by-step tutorial on how to switch from Blogger to a new domain website because the Internet needs a clear one to save future domain switchers some heartache and confusion.

Step 1
Finding your domain host
Blogger suggestions include EasyDNS, GoDaddy.com, ix web hosting, 1and1, Yahoo! Small Business, and No-IP. I used Vodien.com which has proven itself to be legit and the one I will be demonstrating with this tutorial. It is also used by Xiaxue, Ladyironchef and many others which receive a lot of traffic everyday, so you don't have to be afraid of crashing servers.

Step 2
Buying your domain
Search for webhosting at the top bar and click Basic Web Hosting (or other choices that is applicable to your use). Scroll down and you should see a few hosting plans available. Choose your domain name, and buy it using the 20% off promotional code "welovevodien". At the hostValue plan, it should cost $16/year.

Step 3
Domain purchase success
Login to your Client information and ensure your transaction is successful.

Step 4
Domain mapping: Blogger Settings
What you need to do now is to do a domain mapping of your existing blog to the new domain. Go to Blogger Settings > Basic > Publishing. Look out for "+ Set up a third-party URL for your blog - Point your own registered URL to your blog." Enter your domain name.

Step 5
DNS propagation from Vodien
You should see something like this, asking you to locate your Domain Name System (DNS) settings and enter the following two CNAMEs on your domain registrar's website. For Vodien, go to 24/7 Super Support > Submit a Support Ticket to request for DNS propagation help from the engineers and support staff. They respond extremely efficiently and quickly even at 2am - their responses averaged at about 10 minutes every single time. In the email, indicate what are the two names/hosts and destinations/labels respectively for them to do it. They reply straight to the email address which you registered Vodien with.

Step 6
Wait
All you have to do now is wait. Nothing you can do to speed up the progress. 48 hours was the duration I waited for, it varies from domain to domain.

Step 7
Check with Blogger
Occasionally, you can go back to Blogger Settings to try to check if the process is complete. Once it is, you should see something like this! That's all.

This is something that I've procrastinated since forever, and you should do it quickly because the earlier you do, the faster you can start rebuilding your traffic flow again. Good luck!! =)
