Are you a self-professed singing diva or king at karaokes? With Teo Heng's opening of its 7th outlet at JCube, you can be sure that this singing as a national hobby is here to stay. What are the most difficult songs you've ever encountered that left you with broken voices and a bruised ego? We've all been there: here are the top 10 C-pop songs that are out to murder your throats:

1. 神木與瞳 - 為你而活
With a steady mid-range opening, this duet quickly rises into a crescendo that will strain most throats even before the first chorus. The first chorus will prove to be pretty challenging but if you're warmed up and in the zone, you will sail past it smoothly. Not so sure about the next few choruses though.

2. 信樂團 - 千年之戀
The notoriously difficult song that most people will quickly sit out amidst murmurs of who even chose this song?! The song starts out with a nightmarishly high female pitch and a super low male pitch, before proceeding into a screaming fest. Best way to empty out a room. If you managed to finish the whole song without skipping a word, chances are you might have to hand over the microphone to rest your throat for at least next three songs.

3. 張惠妹 - 黑吃黑
This is a highly enjoyable to sing if only the singer is familiar with the (semi-rap) lyrics - especially if you want to vent your frustrations! The chorus requires you to hold your breath almost throughout the whole thing and maintain a pretty high pitch. If you don't know the lyrics, you will be very lost. It's not a song you can smoke your way through.

4. 萧敬腾 - 王妃
Requiring zero introduction, this is my personal favourite song or rather, an excuse to shout into the microphone and have lots of fun terrorizing my friends. The lyrics, seemingly complicated, are easy to remember and one of the songs that I've hardly fumbled with in terms of lyrics. Tone-accuracy... that's another story.

5. 蘇打綠 - 我好想你
This long-drawn, slow song might be even harder to belt out consistently as its repetitive lyrics requires a lot of vocal strength to maintain. Most people drop out after the first chorus because it's almost the same thereafter, unless they want to challenge the final crescendo.

6. 李佳薇 - 煎熬
An excellent way to scare your fellow karaoke friends, or impress them if you can deliver this song perfectly well. This is also the very popularly-chosen song to make or break a contestant during singing competitions. The chorus is an instant killer that can potentially induce you to drop out or embarrassingly break your voice.

7. 胡夏- 那些年
Theme song of Taiwanese romance film, You Are the Apple of my Eye, this song is possibly in the hot 100 songs in most karaokes... but it really isn't as easy as the Hu Xia made it out to be. Somehow, this song leaves people breathless after singing the whole song, but most people rotate the microphone around to conserve energy anyway.

8. 齊秦 - 火柴天堂
A classic song that showcases the vocal range (or lack thereof), only the ultimate talented or the humorous ones will choose this song. We all knows how this song goes, with a chorus that requires you to finish in one breath while fighting back tears in this emotional song. I might only attempt this song if I were to be alone.

9. 陈升 - One Night in Beijing
A very fun and #throwback song to sing, you shouldn't miss out on this song if there's someone willing to claim the microphone for this! A few thigh-slapping antics would make up for the tone accuracy, but who cares about that?

10. 信樂團 - 死了都要愛
Shooting through the roof with its insanity requirements, this song is probably selected just to see comical scenes of people breaking their voices trying to get through it. How Shin actually makes this song sounds pleasant is amazing!
Strain-o-meter: 10/10

    1. Almost all of 信樂團's songs are very straining! 离歌 is very demanding, but overall 死了都要愛 takes the crown..
