Delve into the vibrancy and spirit of this unique culture with a five-day extravaganza festival featuring 2 world premiere theatre shows, 3 seminars, free public performances and a myriad of exhibitions. Artworks by renowned Peranakan visual artistes and a bustling bazaar with exclusive Peranakan merchandise will be on sale.

Bibiks Behind Bars: Watch the quirky antics of the Bibiks of Katong as they challenge old traditions and gambling with the new, conjuring up new tricks to challenge their odds of winning. This fun-filled musical is a must-see for the whole family with a colourful spectacle and side-splitting entertainment.

Pintu Pagar: A romantic coming-of-age musical set in the old colonial days during the golden era of the Peranakans, Pintu Pagar speaks of decades of missed chances and close encounters between the protagonists. What lessons would they have learnt at the end of their journeys traveled separately, and apart? Will they manage to find each other or will they swing in tandem like the two doors of the Pintu Pagar – always to miss, never to connect with and always to long for each other?

Expressions

Browse the exhibition showcasing the historical collection of vintage photographs from The Intan celebrating fashions of yesteryears – and a collection of visual arts paintings from Peranakan artists of today. The presentation of original paintings by local Singapore visual artists - Adeline Yeo, Desmond Sim and Carolyn Law - is current and relevant. Each Artist presents their version of what is Peranakan in their eyes.

Cultural Interludes & Workshops
Thursday, 6 November 2015 to Sunday, 8 November 2015
Victoria Theatre, Empress Place

A free public showcase of Peranakan Music, Dance and Demonstrations with live stage performances, food demonstrations and dancing under the stars, Cultural Interludes promises to be full expression of the Peranakan Culture – Past, Present and Future! On the schedule are visiting Peranakan performers from the Asia Pacific region - including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia. Enjoy a full feature of some of our forgotten art forms and practices and revel in the music, songs and dances.

Sulam Embroidery Workshop
Harness your sewing skills the traditional and modern way with Baba Raymond Wong & Heath Yeo. Understand the distinctions in threads and materials, using old sewing machines or modern equipment. Learn what to get, where to get them from - and what to avoid!
