Hattendo, Fluffy Breads & Unbelievably Smooth Custard Fillings at Tanjong Pagar Centre

Tanjong Pagar Centre has just opened its doors, welcoming a long-standing Japanese bakery brand, Hattendo as one of its tenants! Hattendo is famous for their cream buns, with five different flavours: custard, cream, matcha, azuki and chocolate for $2.50 each. The payment and collection of food operates via a queue system. On a weekend morning, waiting time is about 5-10 minutes.

The cream buns are freshly baked on the spot! The pastry chef kneads at the dough with an open-concepet kitchen. Perhaps you can even learn a thing or two by observing.

So... I tried the custard buns. Wrapped in a paper foil, my first impression was that it actually looked like a burger from the exterior appearance. Peeling it open, The little soft bun is really the queen of all breads, with a soft, fluffy bun and then it is filled with an unbelievably smooth custard filling. Imagine cream puffs, or if you've tried the shuu puffs from Koki Tamagoyaki - the fillings are similar. For a bread, I must say these cream buns from Hattendo are really good in a simple and straight forward way. But ultimately, don't look for something that would 'wow' you. There are plenty of other restaurants and shops at Tanjong Pagar Centre that are worth a visit, so drop by if you're in the area.
